Follow our blog this month as our Play@Home Mom makes holiday shopping easy by featuring toys for every child’s personality!

Do you know a little someone that is always singing or humming a tune? Tub Tunes Symphony makes the perfect gift!

What could be more fun than splish-splashing and making music in the tub?! This deluxe gift set includes a water drum, water xylophone and water flutes that are made to be played in the tub. There are 2 mallets that are great for drumming or tapping out a nice little ditty on the xylophone. The set also includes 6 double-sided, waterproof music sheets that are color-coded and make playing songs like “London Bridge Is Falling Down” and “ The Farmer in the Dell” easy to learn.

The girls really enjoyed putting on a concert in the bath. The floating xylophone can come apart and the pieces can be rearranged to make different tunes. They can also stick to the wall and be played that way, too. The water flutes are fantastic! Lori was amazed to discover that when the flutes were empty they all sounded the same, but after we filled the flutes with different amounts of water, they each made a unique sound!

After a very long bath, we emptied out the water flutes and laid the other instruments out to dry. We can’t wait for the encore performance tomorrow night!

Why I like this toy:

Teaches the Science of Music – encourages the exploration of how to make different tones.

Makes Taking a Bath Exciting – bath time never sounded so good!

Gender Neutral – great fun for girls and boys

I’ll tell you the truth: I can’t stand bathtime. It’s just not fun to kneel on bathroom tile, contort my back to get to those hard-to-reach places, and use my cat-like reflexes to prevent a series of potential injuries (my boys like to stand and jump in the bathtub – a genius idea, I know). However, I subject myself to it time after time so that my kids will be happy and, you know, clean.

I suppose I should consider myself lucky after the horror stories I’ve heard about that dreaded time of day: parents who have to bribe, cajole, drag their children into the bathtub. The minute my kids hear the word “bath”, they’re practically stripping off in the middle of the living room. The problem is that they love the water a little too much. They’ll splash, dive, swim, make waves, search for hidden treasure. By the time bathtime is over, most of the water is out of the bathtub and all over me.

But, their fascination with water is something I can make work for me, with the right props. Bathtime is a prime opportunity to teach kids about the properties of water, how things can change when wet, dry, hot, cold, etc. They can learn about weight and buoyancy, what floats and what sinks. Sponges, food coloring, ice, wax paper, balloons are all fantastic props that will keep your kids entertained and the water in the tub. As for the kids who would be happy to just stink, these sorts of “experiments” are a great incentive to get them into the water.

Other great ideas to get kids into the bath: letting them wear swimmies, goggles, even bathing suits, having them draw on the bathroom walls with washable markers/crayons (see picture above), promising them ice cream for breakfast every day for the rest of their lives.

How do you make bathtime fun for your kids?

I consider myself lucky that my girls love taking baths, but I know some kids (and maybe you do, too) that are less than fond of bath time. If I were a betting woman, I would wager that Princess In The Tub from ALEX would get them washing without a problem (at least for the girls!)

Princess In The Tub was right up my girl’s alley! There is an adjustable tiara to be worn in the tub, a mirror (to see how beautiful you look with your tiara on) and a wand to wave around (and wish for a prince to appear). The wand, to Lori’s surprise, was extra special because it twinkled and chimed a magical tune every time she dipped it in the water – amazing!

They were super happy to play princess in the tub (if it wasn’t obvious enough by their giant smiles!)

Lori discovered that if you put the mirror up against a flat, wet surface, it will stick –“look ma no hands!” I discovered that the tiara did a pretty good job of keeping the water out of the girl’s faces while I washed out their shampoo. No complaints while washing off shampoo? This really is magical!

If you have a little princess of your own or know a cute one, you might need to get this bath set for them!

Why I love, love, love this product:

Fun, Fun, Fun! I don’t know too many little girls that wouldn’t absolutely love being a princess in the bath (or anytime for that matter!)

Makes bath time easier

It twinkles!!! Hello? Magical sounds and lights in the tub? Need I say more!?!

Here’s a nice video for all you princesses out there:

Dear Nurit,

Bath time at my house is fun, noisy and hectic. All three of my young children ages 4-7 love getting wet and wild! Now that they’re older they no longer need to sit in an infant tub but I know there are still potential bathtime precautions that I should take to keep them safe and happy. What kinds of things can I do to make sure bath time is fun and ouch-free?

You’re absolutely right. While your children are no longer infants, there are steps that need to be taken to ensure everyone has a good, clean fun. Here are a few tips:

1. Have a bathmat inside of the tub and a soft bath rug with a non-slip base next to the tub to prevent slips.
2. Cover the spout with a sponge or specially designed soft cover to prevent accidents that occur from bumping in to them.
3. Keep all adult hygiene supplies out of reach and sight. This includes razors, curling irons, hair dryers, and anything else that could be a potential hazard.
4. To prevent scalding, set your hot water thermostat to between 100-125 degree Fahrenheit.
5. The water temperature in the bath should be between 90-100 degrees. Use a thermometer.
6. Never leave a child unattended in a bath.
7. Come to bathtime prepared for serious fun! Have the toys ready, bring your cell phone, and make sure the stove is off so your full attention can be right there with your little swimmers. And never leave a child unattended in the bath.
